For many years Allied was involved in the export of pyrotechnics including solid propellant for surface to air missiles. An associated company, Allied Engineering was a pioneer in the opening up of the US market for the transportation of hazardous liquids and gases in European manufactured intermodal ISO tank Containers. As representatives for European manufacturers and lessors Allied Engineering worked with the the USDOT OHMR Research and Special Projects Administration to obtain exemptions from then current regulations to authorize the operation of ISO tank containers carrying hazardous materials via rail, highway and ocean carrier modes.

Today, with the renewed interest in nuclear power and the anticipated opening of the Yucca Mountain repository for spent nuclear fuel Allied International is preparing for the opening up of a market for the transportation of nuclear materials within the United States.
